Radial gate, or Tainter gate : A gate that may be pivoted or hinged with a water face that is usually arc with the centre of curvature at the pivot and water load is transferred through radial struts converging downstream to horizontal shafts or pins anchored in the piers. It carries the name of `Tainter gate` in honour of the inventor Burnham Tainter (illustrated).
