2906. Walton`s rising sill gate : A tilting gate hinged at the base with an additional hinged flap at the downstream end. It is used to admit water into canals when silt is present, it is claimed that by causing a standing wave downstream a given discharge can be obtained under a smaller head than with conventional types of canal head gates and consequently less silt is admitted into the canal (illustrated).
